

Department of Anesthesiology
About Us
The main aim of department is to train candidates in the practice of anesthesia for various surgical specialty, super specialty and in applied medical sciences and research methodology with emphasis on the specialized techniques used in anesthesia and critical care medicine. A log book is being maintained by the PG students day to day and the same is counter signed by the faculty members. Major stress is laid on practical training in operation theatre, intensive care unit, tetanus care unit, pain clinic and emergency and with active participation of the undergraduates and postgraduates in the management of patient.
Department of Anesthesia is running full-fledged O.T. complex for following departments:
- General Surgery
- Urology
- Neurosurgery
- Neonatal & Pediatric Surgery
- Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery
- Ophthalmology
- ENT
- Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Orthopedic and joint replacement surgery
- Maxillofacial and oral surgery
- Endoscopic surgery
Frequent routine surveillance to monitor the sterility of OT complex is being conducted by the department of Microbiology.
The department undertakes all emergencies. The services are being provided to the other clinical department like.
- Radio-Diagnosis and Radiotherapy
- For Electro Convulsive Therapy
- Painless labour
- Cardiac catheterization
Central sterilized supply department is connected to OT complex is equipped with latest equipment for sterilization and is being monitored by Department of Microbiology. Department is working in following fields also:
- PAC Clinic
- Pain Clinic
All Intensive Care units are under the department of Anesthesia to manage and monitor like :
- CCU-Photo
- Medical ICU
- Surgical ICU
- Respiratory ICU
- Cardiac ICU
- Poly trauma ICU
- Neonatal ICU
- Pediatric ICU
- Gastroenterology ICU
- OBG & Gynae ICU
In addition to OR table teaching, in the department there are daily hourly sessions of formal teaching per week.
The department teaching schedule is as follows:
- P.G. Clinical case presentation & discussion
- Journal club
- Seminar on specific topics
Central session (held in departmental seminar room) regarding various topics like CPC, guest lectures, student seminars, biostatistics, research methodology, teaching methodology, health economics, medical ethics and legal issues.
Morbidity and mortality meet
The postgraduate students rotates through all the clinic unit and OTs in the department. All the P.G. residents are assessed daily for their academic activities and also periodically. The performance of the postgraduate students during the training period is monitored throughout the course and duly recorded in the log books.
